Edit: oh, you probably mean the free trial of Outlook? Is there such a thing? If so, that might be viable. As I recall, the MS tool only works with a locally installed version of Outlook, not 365. I’ll have to look into that.

It’s possible, and that’s a good idea. The only one I know of for sure is my son, but he lives 900 miles away, so I’d have to do it remotely, and the PST file is like a GB in size, so I was trying to avoid that. It’s possible one of my friends does though.

Thunderbird looks like a viable client. I installed it tonight and poked around a bit - seems fairly feature rich. If you have outlook, there are a number of options. One of the easiest is to just point Thunderbird at the same address as your Outlook points to, and move your PST contents into Outlook proper. But I don’t have outlook, and don’t want to buy it just for this.

Reminds me of something from the opposite end of the lifespan. When I was young, they didn’t clear the theater after a movie, and they sometimes had “double features” where they’d alternate between two movies and you could watch both for one ticket price. My dad’s aunt lived with us (she was probably in her 70s at this point), and one day a couple of her friends picked her up to go watch “a double features of animal movies” at the local theater. They dropped her off some hours later and her face was grey - she said it was horrible, and didn’t want to talk about it.

It turned out the double features was Day of the Animals and Night of the Grizzly, basically both horror movies. They didn’t think they were allowed to leave during the movie, so they stayed through both.

My wife had a procedure under general - one where they had her legs pulled away back after she was out. She woke up during it to the point where she could hear them talking, but she couldn’t say anything. She told the doctor at the follow-up that she heard them talking and he said lots of people think that, but it’s just hallucinations from the drugs. She said, “One of the things you talked about was your kid’s soccer game,” and he got an “Oh shit” expression and moved the conversation to something else.

Why did he do that, you might ask? Because another thing they did was make fun of my wife in the position she was in. Extremely unprofessional, and she could have made a stink about it, but she just indirectly let him know she heard it.

Taking pictures was such a different experience in those days, knowing you only had as many pictures as was on the roll (like 20 I think it’s what we bought), and you couldn’t see how they came out until you had them developed.

Not sure about your political persuasions, but sadly the inexpensive areas of California tend to be deep red as well.

Yeah, there’s kind of a big flaw in this. I’m in California, too. It’s a huge state, and there re giant swaths of it that don’t have especially high cost of living, but the population centers like LA and San Francisco are very, very expensive. Taking the median isn’t going to give you a realistic answer for most of us.

Science showed things like climate change, which was hurting the bottom line of giant corporations who donate huge amounts of money to Republicans, so Republicans convinced their base that science is against God, and that it’s all part of the evil woke liberals thing. So now anything that comes from science, including vaccines, is tainted.

Me too! I’ve voted consistently liberal, including for every minimum wage hike on the ballot. Also, I’m on the very trailing edge of the boomer generation, and much of the era you’re talking about was before my time. I did reasonably well because I was a computer science grad when that was an earlier thing, but still, I had it easier than my kids (who we’ve tried to help a much a we can).

I just retired after 40 years at over company, plus some college jobs. I’m 62, and social security was one of the things in my plan that made me decide I could retire My company was laying people off; I was secure, but my leaving allowed one more person to keep their job.

Now Trump is tanking my 401k and Elon is taking about cutting SS. I’ve never been more stressed about money.

No, a NASA and DOD contractor. Worked on some neat stuff over the years, including the electrical power system for the space station. I ended up managing the software engineering group, and really liked that - very smart people.

Old guy checking in. I was a computer science major, graduating in 1985. My goal at the time was to go into computer animation (note that Toy story, the first full length computer animated movie, wasn’t released until ten years later). But there was a big computer animated project that was canceled or tabled just before my last semester, so the market was flooded with out of work animators and I decided I’d better do something different. I was getting married, and I needed a job.

I had good grades, but I didn’t think there was much that made my resume stand out from my classmates, each of whom was making 100+ copies of theirs and applying to every software job they could find. So instead, I asked everyone I knew if they knew anyone who worked at a place that hired software people, and asked if they could get me a name of a hiring manager. I got seven or eight of those, and I sent each of them a letter with my resume, mentioning who pointed me their direction. Out of that I got three interviews and two job offers. My first job ended up being writing control software for the space shuttle main engines, and I stayed at the company almost 40 years. I just retired in January.

Honestly, broccoli is wonderful microwaved. Put it in a covered dish with just a little water. For a couple servings, I do on high like 2.5 minutes. Easy to adjust the time to get it just the way you want it. You can’t get it crispy that way, but it’s basically like perfectly steamed.
