This looks like it’ll be decided by just a handful of votes. Democratic challenger Scott Colom is ahead by 65 votes in the latest count in this Deep Red State.

We had one in Canada that was decided by a single vote.

It didn’t stop the bots from pushing a “you don’t matter” spiel.

The Mississippi race and the Alaska race are so crazy. If they both go to the democrat that’s 56 seats in the senate. That would mean only 4 republicans need to defect to beat the filibuster for bills and 10 to remove a president after being impeached by the house.

The filibuster is only there to preserve the status quo. Its not a time for it to exist, and it should not be made part of congresses rules in January. We need vast reform, not status quo.

10 to remove a president after being impeached by the house.

That’s still a huge longshot. Only 7 Republican senators voted to convict Trump, the first time around and of those, only 2 3 are still in Congress (Romney, Murkowski, Cassidy). The rest of the remaining 44 Republican seats have only gotten more red since then, plus you still have Fetterman who’s spoken out against impeachment in the past.

EDIT: forgot Romney didn’t run again

They have absolutely not gotten more red, almost no where in the entire country has gotten more red. 7 republicans crossed the aisle when doing so was still considered career suicide, it’s not anymore, we know this because almost no seats have gotten more red, many have completely reversed back to pre-Trump numbers with Dems on the national tipping point. 10 republicans when democrats are more popular than ever watching their base erode from under their feet is not something impossible

I wouldn’t be surprised if more are willing to go against trump going forward. They can see the writing on the walls, they know there time is almost up if they don’t start putting there names on some popular bills. Trump has lost his momentum and his charisma is gone. This cult is hopefully beginning to break.

This is what I was going to say. I actually don’t care whether we impeach or not (unless we know we have the votes). But we do have a better chance now after a huge wave election. This is a big wakeup call to the GOP. their thugs in purple or purple leaning states are gonna be looking for ways to distance themselves from Trump

FOWLER: There are still some ballots to be counted, and there are provisional ballots that need to be clear. It’s going to take days before the deadline is met for those to be taken care of. Here’s the thing about Mississippi. There are no runoffs for federal races like this. It’s the rare state with no recount mechanism or threshold, and there’s not really any other way to contest the election. So when it’s done, it’s done.
