Yeah, but joining an instance is so hard guys. How am I supposed to know which one to join? What if I join the wrong one? The human brain was never meant to know more than one domain name.

The whole Internet should just be one single website so I don’t have to think. But I will complain about how only one rich guy owns that website, but I’ll do it on that website since it’s the “public square”.

          That’s an awful comparison.

          It’s like email.

You can have a gmail.com address, and send and receive emails between yahoo.com and hotmail.com addresses without issues. Nobody really cares which provider you chose, and if you really want to, you can register your own domain and host email yourself.

If this doesn’t land, then the person you’re talking to probably has never used a computer.

That’s where I’m not 100% sure. Either each instance maintains a copy of the public square, or there is no public square each piece of content is hosted on one instance and viewable from other instances

Well yeah, they wanted a new twitter, not something different and potentially better.

any mastodon instances off the top of your head that have as little or less censorship as Twitter? Because I can think of some that beat Twitter in certain areas but none that beat it in all

No because I don’t use it. I never liked the Twitter format. 🤷‍♂️

Bluesky was cool for like 3 days. Then they let JD Vance start posting there and immediately wiped out all their cred. Now its just pre-Elon Twitter, and that place already sucked ass before he bought it.

Bluesky never had a policy against letting fascists join. There’s been a fascist community there since day 1. If you only noticed when JD Vance joined, you weren’t paying attention.

Why would you want them to censor people? Demanding they censor people is what gives them permission to do bullshit like this where they censor posts and information.

The fact that so many leftists have been convinced that censorship is good is actually scary. If you are pro-censorship then you aren’t a leftist.

Unless Bluesky openly stated that they are a private community where only leftists are allowed then you shouldn’t be asking for censorship.

Freedom of speech is not an obligation for individual people, companies, universities, etc to provide a soap box and megaphone to fascists and bigots.

Yeah a little too late. That shit is all over the place, and it’s a relatively small file. It’s not like a 45tb file that most people wouldn’t want to download in the first place

“Our Community Guidelines protect people’s safety and privacy by prohibiting the unauthorized sharing of personal information and other content that could pose safety risks. Because the files include the email addresses and phone numbers of individuals, shared without their authorization, we are blocking links to the dataset.”

I understand where they’re coming from because they shouldn’t pick-and-choose who gets doxxed, the info in the leak hasn’t been vetted it could contain random innocents, if violence happens and someone was enabled by info on their platform they could be held liable etc. etc. Like I get it, I do, and fuck off for censoring on the side of the fash, but at the dame time I get the feeling they might not be absolutely 100% sincere in removing this from their platform since the block message leaves the URL on it’s own line as easily copied text…

Oh my God, they put the URL on the page. Sharing a screenshot of it is totally fair game, and still spreads the URL, while giving you the plausible deniability of only posting it to criticize Bluesky.

Still, fuck Bluesky for this. I told people that joining “Twitter cloned by cryptobros” was a bad idea, and they didn’t listen.

It was founded by crypto grifters with backing from Jack Dorsey. It was a shithole the day it went online. It was never countercultural in the slightest.

Unfortunately I had to block BlueSky when they started asking personal questions. A bit creepy.
