The current patent system greatly benefits the mega corporations. A small company could never make a phone because of the insane patent minefield owned by the mega corps.
Yeah they basically set up a mutually assured destruction patent stalemate with the existing big players. Any new entrant gets blown to high hell.
It looks to me like they’re lobbying to do the same with “AI” right now. They want to set up some stupid protectionist racket where it’ll be as impossible to use a cheap chatbot as it is to buy a cheap EV in the states.
