He was pardoned up to a specific date. After that date, they could still charge him with something. He had no choice but to plead the 5th. The SCOTUS will not touch this one because the precedent would undermine far too much tradition.

I agree. Except I’m not 100% sure the scotus won’t go further off the political deep end.
