The burrito bowl I got for lunch today was a bit too spicy for me. Afterwards, my nose got very runny. It’s not the first time this happened, so I decided to look it up. Lo and behold, there is a term for this!
ETA: I didn’t choose the thumbnail, it generated automatically. Sorry if it seems irrelevant to the post.
“Rhinorrhea”. Literally diarrhea for your nose. TIL.
A runny nose can also be caused by reflux, particularly if it happens after food that is not spicy such as fatty foods or big meals. It’s often overlooked because it’s not the typical heartburn symptom.
So that’s likely why I get a runny nose lately when I eat pizza or Jersey Mike’s.
Yep I was in the same boat for years, runny nose or coughing and feeling sick mostly after eating out. Just powered through it thinking it was this or me just having a week stomach. Eventually figured out that reflux meds like Gaviscon helped and then had a gastroscopy and was diagnosed with Laryngopharyngeal reflux… Took years to put 2 and 2 together because I never got ‘heart burn’. Hopefully not as serious for you!
Omeprazole is my best friend.
So if I need to win a hotwing hotsauce challenge with something as satan as magnum 357 or sneaky like a carolina reaper sauce, I just need to drop a fuckton of Benadryl and smoke a pack before the competition so at least my runny nose won’t give me away failing.
Besides I like bumming smokes from the Hat Man
I’m eating spicy food every day for over a decade now and still get a runny nose almost every time.
I get this, but it doesn’t last that long after I finish eating so I just blow my nose once and it’s done. Would suck to have this be something that lasts a while after eating though.
Just keep in mind the vast difference between symptoms and causes. Many things, including many diseases, are symptoms caused by one of many possible things.
I only mention it because it seems even many doctors do not understand that there is often more to suss out than a fancy term for a diagnosis.
