Why does CNN feel it needs to mislead in order to punctuate it?

We’re closer to achieving cold fusion than we are to achieving a newspaper that can write about Japan without descending into “wACkY jAPaN!!” territory.
This is the worst “both sides” argument I have ever seen.
This is the most frustrating thing because posts like the one you replied to get posted constantly, and debunked constantly as you and other commenters nicely did. Yet they never come back to say, “Thanks for the correction!” or edit their comments to remove the false information. They just go on to repeat the same tripe elsewhere.
People act like scientists have never even looked at traditional treatments and just ignore them because they are “traditional.” Like we haven’t had decades upon decades of progress in medicine, exploring every accessible avenue, and only a few of those avenues actually lead anywhere real. Herbs do not “cool down” or “speed up” your blood. Water does not have “memory.” There are no such things as “meridians” in your body. We don’t need to spend more time researching these things until you can prove that they exist.
People arguing that we need to spend more time researching traditional medicine ignore the fact that we have, and we found it to be bullshit. It’s an intellectually dishonest argument, because it just moves the goalposts every time. Traditional medicine supporters will never admit that their medicine is bullshit, because they view it as foundational, so the most they can do is say “we need to examine it more!” Even though the fundamental, most basic claims that these systems are based on are pseudoscientific fairy tales.
So… I hear you. But think about where it leads if there isn’t a unified fight against Meta.
I see two possible scenarios:
Meta is acting in good faith, and they have no intention to EEE, and you get to interact with your friends on Meta/Threads/whatever forever.
You get to act with your friends for the short term, they get used to Threads, Meta gains a lot of traction and a huge chunk of the fediverse as it uses its huge sway and deep pockets to swallow up all the small servers… and then it defederates with everyone who isn’t on Meta, and not only can you not talk with your friends anymore, but also there’s so few people left to talk to because all the other instances have been swallowed up by Meta. You’re left with no choice but to join Meta if you want to talk with your friends.
It’s not that far fetched. Look at what happened with XMPP and Google Talk. I used to use Pidgin and talk with everyone using XMPP. Then Google shut it down and everyone went over to Google Talk/Chat/Hangouts/whatever the fuck it is now. Who is using XMPP these days??? It still exists, sure, but…
I don’t know the answers to those questions, as I am not a nuclear scientist. But the nuclear scientists seem to think so.
In any case, I think those are good questions. Those are the kind of good questions we get when people read the articles.
