Based on my LinkedIn and various market segments each of my friends on their is in… I’d agree we’re in one. Lots of talented people suddenly looking for a job. The question for me is how long is this going to be a recession, and dumbass leads me to believe it’ll be 3 years and like 10 months of this bullshit.
Just as we fired most of the seasonal fire fighters. Perfect. The brewing shitstorm of this administration keeps sucking all of us down.
Now $1250 to fix since parts tariffs are coming in May. As an owner of an AMG this is annoying and while I have the money to ignore these impacts it’s still frustratingly stupid that it’s even happening at this level. Every part to repair my car usually has to be shipped from Germany which means you and I will be paying more.
Also, new German cars are mostly touch screens and capacitive buttons. So they need frequent electrical components when they fail.
Also, 99% of German car buyers were the same people paying double for a G wagon during COVID and are now so upside down in their loan that the cars are falling like a rock for pricing. Those people have jobs that generally depend on a healthy economy…
What’s worse is how this will-he-won’t-he of making tariffs permanent and using them is causing businesses to also not import needed and desired products for fear that they could have a tariff removed at which point we have effectively purchased something for 25% more that we then can’t explain to the end consumer. People think it’s an on-off, but when products were purchased and brought in with a tariff that may no longer be effective it just makes for bad business.
I don’t disagree with some of your points, but I also don’t believe that Reddit really ever said it was a free speech platform. Twitter has for sure (because of Elon), but Reddit has really been a “front page of the internet” believer. They felt more like an aggregator and newspaper. Which definitely has a lot of censoring and opinion blocking in the world of print too. I mean, remember when they got rid of jailbait or space dicks, was that a speech problem? Some felt it was, but it was definitely something we all realized was wrong and that a private company tries to protect its “brand.” Obviously being on Lemmy and leaving after the API change means I didn’t agree with them and I found another place that aligned more with my values.
You holding that sign up though is legal, however only on public property, and only if you’re taking up less than half of the sidewalk and not in the path of traffic. You also cannot use an amplified device (unless you’ve filled out the permit) and your sign cannot be on any wood or metal sticks. If you step onto private property you can be asked to leave or removed. That last one is also something that just like a website isn’t restricting your right to free speech, just that a specific building/business/owner doesn’t want to be in support of it.
In the end, why are we all still talking about Reddit. This site definitely has users that love going back to their crazy ex to fuck and then realizing it’s still crazy like as if it would change.
Definitely agree with you on that.
If we’re talking about the Unpopular opinion subreddit (what the image is from). They also had President, presidency, Trump, and spez. They’re just big things that end up with a lot of garbage. A sub about unpopular opinions filled with the same “Donald Trump bad” becomes boring and annoying.
If we’re talking about the Lemmy Shitpost community then they specifically call out no derogatory language towards anyone’s Race, gender, or religion. Is that trampling your civil liberties?
Your rights as a person and citizen don’t magically extend everywhere. Otherwise you turn into a sovereign citizen. This weird obsession on Lemmy with this idea you should be able to say whatever you want online anywhere is fucking stupid and weird. A website is like another business or home (or even a newspaper… which at times has also pulled ideas they don’t agree with). You’re showing up to it. If you don’t like the rules in one place, go to another (or read a different paper). Or make your own.
Also, I love the irony of me making an unpopular opinion comment on a post about unpopular opinion.
Is this really so bad? I mean… I get it. When you’re trying to moderate something with thousands of posts, and a ton start coming in that are low effort/bot posts saying things like “unpopular opinion: I support Luigi” or “unpopular opinion: I am glad Biden won’t be president” it makes sense. Those are just such constant topics with such a wide range of ideals. Whereas an unpopular opinion they might want to spur conversation would be “unpopular opinion: I don’t mind my socks being damp or wet” otherwise it’s just constant shitposts.
Plus, Reddit isn’t the (US) government. Your expectation of free speech should be null.
If it bleeds, it leads. Good news is all over the place, you’re just not told about it because it doesn’t get eyes. Even this can be viewed as good news. This man’s act of kindness, while he died for it, ended up sparking a lot of feelings for people and creating a moment of people realizing the importance of standing up for those who cannot defend themselves. While I don’t wish this on someone, how noble that Bobby is now known as the guy who stood up for a defenseless animal. Remember Mr. Roger’s “look for the helpers” comment.
This is the ideal dog body Hollywood is pushing on us.
Outside of Nissans CVT yall are absolutely sleeping on their interiors. Given the price they compete in they’re doing some really amazing work.
Mitsubishi has also had the rather nice Outlander PHEV. The Mirage needs to go as it’s just too crappy and soils the brand, but their work has been fine. I owned an Evo and I’d love another, but that didn’t make them money.
Toyota has also been steadfast against BEVs (which I can sort of understand, but their Bz4X is a shit attempt) and their new turbo motors have had some reliability concerns.
Subaru builds the ugliest cars on the road with all that plastic now and their motors continue to suffer head gasket issues.
Honestly a Honda-Nissan-Mitsubishi corp would be capable of keeping up the fight. Especially given Nissan was an early player in the BEV game.
Just drove around the bay (Concord to Atherton, Santa Cruz to San Jose, and then back to SF before going back home). There was a lot of trump flags and supporters on bridges and vehicles driving around. There’s a lot of Trump supporters even in Progressive Bay Area regions. Lots of tech bros now are big Trump supporters. That said, the west coast has far, far less than other regions.
Tesla also lost a ton of the initial talent that made the model S and X such incredible feats of technology. IMO, if I buy and electric car here in the states it’s a Lucid, and if I get an SUV it’s a Rivian.
I drive a Ram 2500… so I have like the worst LED lights for other people. What I don’t get is why they don’t automatically dim as I slow down. It’s now like your headlights are needed to see as far down the road when I’m doing 0mph. Just keep them at the minimum and increase brightness as I drive, and if it detects another car in front of me just reduce light output while drive to -10% from normal.
You bring up a great point. Does Donald have a certificate showing he doesn’t have donkey brains?
It’s all his supporters up in the hills that catch on fire anyways. California had more people vote for Donald Trump than anywhere else. Every time he threatens them and they clap I have to wonder if they realize they’re hurting themselves in their own confusion. (Short answer, they don’t)
I know you people in the middle and lower classes don’t understand, but this poor man now has to pull up to yacht club in a smaller boat, and he will only be able to afford 3 additional vacation homes this year. For you plots, that’s like… showing up to a team meeting without a Starbucks cup and having a “coffee shop” cup, or going to work and pulling out a bagged lunch instead of going out to eat. Think of how this will impact his mental health and his social status. Smh.
