  • Heyck says she got divorced in her 50s after her son turned 18.

“It was really more of a working relationship than a full marriage,” she says, and Heyck was emotionally ready to be on her own.

But the financial transition, she says, wasn’t easy. For years, she struggled to make ends meet, living with roommates and couch-surfing as she waited for a spot to open in income-adjusted senior housing.

“I was an artist. I lived on the edge financially. I didn’t have a 401(k) … I always thought that I would be married. That was the big surprise,” she says.

How was it a “big surprise” when it’s implied that she wanted the divorce to happen? You have an unstable job, divorce your spouse, and then go all surprised Pikachu when it occurs to you that your finances are unstable?

  • I don’t really know the details of how they would translate from app to app, but I do know that ActivityPub is specifically designed to allow all of its apps to pull the same information. If an app utilizes ActivityPub, it inherently has the capability of displaying all of its components.

If anyone sees that I’m wrong on something here, please feel free to correct me.

  • The Neopets Team rolled up their sleeves and set out to foundationally transform the project into something entirely different by bringing on additional designers, developers, and writers to help craft a game that the Neopian community would embrace. Most recently, the decision was made to transition to a mobile app and rebuild from the ground up as World of Neopets, a social life-simulation game in which you live your ideal Neopian life from the perspective of a Neopet! Decorate your Neohome, explore iconic Neopian lands in 3D, discover secret treasures and knowledge, or play mini-games while you party with your Neofriends — all while you interact and quest with a collection of your favourite Neopian characters!

Uh. I’m not sure this sounds very good, actually…

  • I don’t know if difficult is the word I’d use, but I couldn’t stand Pikmin 3, and I imagine I couldn’t stand Pikmin 1 either, because of the time limits. I want to be able to take my time, strategize, and explore at my own pace. It ruins the fun to know that I only have 30 days, or that I’ll lose if I don’t collect X amount of fruit per day.

Pikmin 2 is so far the best game in the series, in my opinion. If I want to spend three days building up my Pikmin army and stockpiling the sprays, I can do it without worry that I’m running behind now. I don’t need to rush through the game, and can take it at my own pace.

If only there were a mod for Pikmin 3 that removes the juice mechanic, or gives unlimited juice from the start.
