  • It’s less an echo chamber and more simply an attempt at creating an Internet community that doesn’t constantly argue or insult people. Where you treat people like they are smart humans and where others return the same assumption. All different opinions are welcomed. I know I hold a few strong differing opinions than the norm on beehaw and have always been treated with decency. Taking those same opinions in to lemmy general I’ve been called names and attempted to be invalidated instead of people trying to see a different opinion. So if anything it seems like lemmy general is becoming an echo chamber and beehaw is trying to be a respectful discourse community.





  • Stability is important and the Asus Rog Ally is a response to Steam Deck’s popularity to try to cash in on the concept. So of course the Rog Ally, with an OS that isn’t meant for controller navigation only, and with less time to develop stable drivers, is going to be less stable than a device that has an OS dedicated to it, with an app that’s running specifically developed for almost a decade now for controller navigation. Additionally, Steam included dual trackpads because they knew people would want that precision that we saw in the Steam Controllers.

    Asus has more experience overall with hardware development compared to Steam. Asus has been building mobile computers for decades but Steam has been building random gaming devices for almost a decade now. The PC mobile console was Valve’s original concept but I bet if Asus started on it when Steam did, we’d see Asus on top. As of now, Steam has a fighting chance to keep ahead of Asus.



  • I’ve worked with Unreal Engine 4 since 2014. I was a part of games that got the engine early. I adopted Unreal 5 last year when it was reasonable to do so. It’s honestly one of, if not the most powerful game engine out there. It has its own set of issues of course. A lot of people use its features without regard to their proper usage or pitfalls of using them. It’s also not an engine that caters to small indie developers. Every engine has its flaws. That said I’ve constantly watched as large indies to AAA studios switch to unreal over my career. It’s probably the best engine out there for those studios. It’s good to see major studios dropping their clearly buggy engines and being able to put out better products.

    That all said, boy that 5% to Epic is making them a lot of money. I’m really hoping in a few years that Godot Engine will really start to compete but even talking with one of the major engine contributors: “godot lacks people who know what they’re doing.” I also see this in a lot of engine issues and poor architecture choices. It’s disappointing to see someone so close to the project confirm. Unreal needs a strong competitor though, something ideally open sourced.





  • I looked at 5 articles 3 were essentially just trash articles that made up facts. I’m not going to say which because then it only encourages spot fixing of the system by deleting those 3 embarrassing articles that read like shit and make up things from thin air. Work on your site. I remember a Reddit boy that trimmed out 60% to 80% of the words in an article. Maybe make a news site like that first with reputable sources then try to add bipartisanship.
