Inexperienced people find lots of reasons to go into the woods. Drunken bonfires, chasing lost dogs, trying to be healthier by going for walks. Blaming this soley on believing in bigfoot is a little unreasonable.

These guys could have also died going on a regular hike, a hunting trip or any other reason to go into the woods. The bigger issue here is they weren’t prepared for the weather conditions they were outside in, that should be the bigger focus on preventing this kind of death in the future. Public school teachers often vilified blue collar work like trades, saying things like pay attention otherwise you’ll end up as some plumber. Now the trades struggle to find good candidates partially because everyone considers them as bad jobs or “poor people jobs” despite many trades providing decent salaries and often needing a good mix of knowledge and physical skills.

Suburban sprawl isn’t really profitable either, our system is flawed to let developers take the profits while the municipality cannot afford to maintain the neighborhood a few years down the line.
