Okay, so every time I decide I’m going to play a retro game through emulation, a remaster is announced, giving me access and an opportunity to enjoy a better version of the game instead. It happened with Metroid Prime, Link’s Awakening, Baten Kaitos, Trails from Zero/to Azure, FF pixel remasters, KOTOR, Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance, and now this I guess… So for the sake of everyone else, what retro games are worth adding to my list?
LLMs are only as “fact based” as the data they source. An LLM in the time of Galileo would have told you the earth is flat.
I’ve been using Mac for decades and have yet to have a particularly pleasant gaming experience with it, although I don’t generally go looking for it anymore. Last I tried, I bought FF XIV “FOR MAC” and it couldn’t run on my MBP, which was the latest model at the time. It would run if I had an older OS running though. And to top it off, I wasn’t even allowed a refund for the mistake, because it was a problem with WINE and not square’s fault. I decided Mac games weren’t worth the frustration at that point.
Even if Apple magically did everything right for gaming on Mac, I wouldn’t be inclined to use the client Steam built for Mac.
I’m really liking Kbin, but I do think the microblogging end of things could do with some refining. Most of the time I forget that it’s there.

I don’t think there’s anything scary about LLMs. They’re just fancy computer algorithms that print out the most likely response to any given query based on the data it was trained on. The actual scary part are the idiots who somehow confuse it with real intelligence, who then choose to rely on it for important stuff like policy making.
LLMs would have told you the sun revolved around the earth back when that was standard thinking.
I see. So when he accused that teacher of being a pedo, Elon must have been under the impression that he was giving praises.
You know what will make kids immediately and tangibly safer? A complete ban on firearms. You know what would make their lives immediately and tangibly better? More school funding, less book banning, better paid teachers, better paid parents, affordable healthcare, parental leave…
This bill “protects children” in name only.
I expect it to be worse next year, and even worse the year after that.
I had like 2 posts that I considered useful. They were guides on how to get twin stick controls on goldeneye 007 emulation for android and how to make CHD compression work on apple silicon. Rather than delete them, I copied them over to kbin then replaced the Reddit posts with links to those. That way Redditors can still access the guides, but they’ll have to leave Reddit and see a little fediverse to do it.
I know, right? And u/spez threw the match! I’m still in shock over how swiftly it just went from amazing to garbage. Fortunately, Kbin and the fediverse is already superior for me even if the community isn’t as robust. The growth and enthusiasm is here.
Stop stealing my intellect!
I use Brave and Nord VPN. Am I going to die?
I’m still waiting for a subscription to Nord to time out, but I’ve been hearing nothing but Proton since joining the Fediverse. I’m seriously considering moving to that. They also offer an alternative to Google drive that looks like it might have potential as well.
I made a magazine on kbin as an alternative to a relatively niche subreddit I really appreciated. And in the month since the migration, it’s only grown more apparent that I was a bit over enthusiastic about the scope of that migration. Only 2, maybe 3, others have contributed to the magazine, and it’s usually a question I have no definitive answer for. Oddly enough, there are over 40 silent subscribers, so I’m probably doing something of interest to some people out there.
For better or worse, Kbin still doesn’t have the means to let you remove magazines you’ve created. So rather than deleting or abandoning it, I’ve kind of opted to take responsibility over it and treat it as more of a personal hobby and public repository for myself. Every once in a while I’ll post a tutorial for something I’ve done, or write out some thoughts of my own without any expectation of engagement. When the ability to delete magazines comes through, I might consider migrating my more useful contributions to one of the more centralized magazines at that point and then removing my own.
I never bought coins or whatever, but I had inherited a bunch somehow. I jumped on reddit just now to find an old thread I’d saved and found this in my inbox:
Hello from Reddit,
We’re reaching out because you have Reddit Premium and/or Reddit Coins on your account.
TL;DR: We’re making updates to awards and coins on Reddit that we’ll complete by September 12, 2023. As part of this, we made a decision to move away from Reddit coins and awards. This includes the 700 monthly coins* and Premium Awards, which are currently part of the Reddit Premium experience.
You’ll still be able to use your Reddit Coins until September 12, after which they’ll be removed from your account.
Note: all other current Premium perks will still continue to exist, including the ad-free experience.
As we looked at our current awarding system, there was consistent feedback from redditors that stood out – particularly around the clutter from awards and all the steps involved with awarding content. We also learned that redditors want awarded content to be more valuable. With that, we are reworking how great content and contributions are rewarded on Reddit. We will have more updates to share soon.
If you have further questions please check out our announcement post to read more about the update.
- This perk is part of the paid Reddit Premium experience.
Thought it was kind of funny considering I never once cared about coins in the first place. Just checked and apparently I have “13325 coins to spend.” I’m just going to let them go unless someone has a more maliciously compliant suggestion.
I was wondering how long it would take before someone made this pun. Time to reset the timer…
Then why not just use a USB C cable?
