Not quite related to the conversation, but I think it would be funny if a CEO tried to run a business into the ground but ended up being the most successful and beloved CEO in the company’s history.

“I know, if I enact a 4 day workweek, nobody will have time to get anything done”

“Okay so that didn’t work… Maybe if I increase staffing, give everyone a raise, the overhead will eat into the company profits and nobody will want to invest!”

“Um… I’ll have the dev team drag their heels on product release! Nobody will want to buy our product if we release a month late. Heck, maybe if we wait until the devs say it’s ready we won’t release anything at all! This plan is sure to work!”

Because for some reason, our entire economy is built on short term profit rather than longevity and stability.

Exactly. I don’t see it surprising, but cool as hell. Its neat to see how our language can evolve, and also a reminder that it’s evolving all the time.

IDK why your comment reminded me, but back when I was in middle school (late 90s) we had an anti drug guest speaker. One of those ones where they were former addicts trying to scare you out of trying drugs. During the Q&A, someone asked him a question and that got him onto how plastic water bottles were super bad for you and you should never drink out of plastic because you’re ingesting tiny plastic particles. I remember we were laughing at him while administration was trying to shoo him off the stage.

Now we just kinda shrug when told we’re ingesting a credit card worth of plastic every week, lol.

In another lifetime I worked for an MSP that would perform network services for local industries. One of our customers, a lumber processing plant, needed ethernet drops for some fancy new controllers for their kilns. I count that job as one of the worst experiences in my career due to the heat alone. It was the middle of July, pulling 12 hour days next to giant furnaces in tin shacks. I probably lost 30 pounds in sweat alone on that job. I could wring out my shirt and jeans at the end of each day. It was absolute misery. I have no idea how the guys who actually worked there each day could do it

Heat is no joke, and I find it appalling that we have nothing in place to protect people from it

This reminds me of a video a few years ago where a mom was trying to take a picture with her kid and a bison. The kid looked super nervious, but mom kept pushing the kid to get closer. There’s gotta be so many close calls like that where people don’t realize that national parks are not zoos, and the animals will absolutely fuck you up. Hell, animals in zoos will fuck you up too, that’s why they tell you to stay away from the fence.

I mean, if you have nothing to hide, then surely you don’t need window blinds or a bedroom door? It should also mean that it’s okay for guests to rifle through your closet and dresser drawers, right?

I run a small community of under 100 users. Everyone’s been following the rules so far, and there hasn’t been very much that has needed my attention. I still try to make an occasional post and interact with posts that other users make (favorite, boost, comment).

I think that if you’re at least interacting with your communities in some way, you should be good!
