The decision to halt production of Tesla’s polarizing polygonal pickup marks the end of an error.

Elon Musk, in a post on X, has officially called time on the Cybertruck, stating that “Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.”

Produced for less than four years, the polarizing pickup is seemingly dying as it lived, with the news being greeted in a flurry of replies in praise of the EV as well as deriding it. James Star, claiming to be a Tesla employee, posted that it was “the saddest news! Cybertruck (was) the best car Tesla sold,” right next to a user called Captain Ford who simply replied to Musk with “Fuck that shitbox.”

I thought they looked cool. I just hated everything about them and around them or in any way associated with them.

I agree. The idea, that it’s what a child thinks a car or truck is, is actually very sweet. I’m shocked Tesla came up with it.

They’re shit cars and worse trucks. They don’t work, by which I mean they constantly break and they’re shittily made and the software is bad. They’re not price competitive. They haven’t aged well and that’s going to get worse. And they’re made by a company owned by a horrible person and bought almost exclusively by people who are socially malevolent. All that’s ample reason not to like them.

I also dislike that Tesla used and has now tainted this idea, so I actually dislike Tesla for more moral reasons than people who think it’s ugly; they just think Tesla’s incompetent, which is a weakness and not actually evil. That means I pass the anti-Tesla purity test with bonus points.

At least I still have the VW bus.

Totally. Yeah, you get it. I feel similarly about fascists co-opting nerd culture terms like Grok, Palantír — They ruin everything they touch. It will take decades for the stink to wash off, if ever.

But I feel the same way in that the names are fundamentally cool as fuck. They’re just used for things I wish I could shove out of the universe’s airlock.

It looked cool in the ironic or retro kind of thing. Like it could have been from an 80 movie.

As a serious, professional and expensive car, it’s a joke. Like the car Homer designed.

Yeah, I think it looks good to people who would rather play video games than drive anything.

I’m not a car person so all cars look like shit to me. Not that I’d ever but one of my own, but that one at least looked appealing.

But again, car people will undoubtedly disagree.

I love vehicles that challenge the status quo. I dislike Nazis more.

If the cybertruck came from the volvo stable I’d be all over it, because it would also be safe.

I mean all taste is subjective. I’ve said my opinion and now you’ve said yours.

I guarantee if you like the look of any mainstream car I’ll think it looks clunky and gross.
