Well “new” for me. I bought a used 2016 Chevy that used to be a fleet vehicle. Got it for like $8000 and it gets 33mpg which I love.

I did seriously consider getting an electric, but since I need a car for long term road trips? I don’t think an electric would be good right now.

Lke if I need to drive from Idaho to Wisconsin, how would I do that with an electric?

I drove 7 hours yesterday without issue in my ev. Even at the highest EV charger cost its about 80% cheaper at the moment, but mostly I charge at home for free.

    I travel nationwide constantly.

What EV? How far do you typically travel? I’ve found the payments offset the fuel costs in a fantastic way for the new one I bought a couple of months ago

Kia. I’d travel all over frequently, its onlyever a hassle because chargwrs need accounts instead of all being interoperable and I am locked in to a poor quality provider. Energy is energy but their rfid is shit.

By planning stops at places that provide electric charging. You know, like how you plan a regular road trip with stops at places to fill up the car.

      • Some do. Some rely on the ubiquity of gas stations. And the truth is that charging stations aren’t frequent enough everywhere to handle long trips in rural areas. There’s cities where you have to hunt one down.

That being said, it is getting easier to find them all the time. People want evs, the money is there, so infrastructure will follow. It’s still at the point where an ev isn’t realistic for everyone, everywhere, but it shouldn’t be long before nobody has to plan for charging expect for places where they’d also have to plan heavily for gas.

That’s me, I rely on the ubiquity of gas stations lol. If charging stations were more prevelent in rural areas or there was some way for me to do it, I would. But the honest to god truth is there would be no good way for me to do it.

Depending on how often these road trips are it might have made sense to rent a fuel vehicle for the trip. It would need to be a part of the overall calculations, but could make sense for some.

I just rented a fuel vehicle the other day and goddamn rental car prices are higher than ever.
