Those people might be unhappy, but most of them will still refuse to move from the platform.
I’m not moving because there’s too many people I regularly talk to on it
because if most people aren’t significantly inconvenienced they won’t join a different platform, and if there aren’t your friends on a different platform it’s really hard to leave.

Still don’t think its quite ready but its chugging along and its been fun following the progress. I know they have some big updates inbound. Hopefully people actually give it a shot and flip over to Fluxer.
I’d also add that the “Proton” subscrition equivalent - “Plutonium”, is a better value proposition. But I will admit, they still need to clear a few hurdles before even I feel completely comfortable ditching Discord.
But its Open Source and it has a self-hosting option, along with the Quality of Life you expect from Discord in terms of the app layout, screen sharing, etc.
I’ve been eyeing Fluxer for quite a while now. Once they roll out the update where they want to overhaul and streamline the selfhosting part, my friends and I are going to switch

So many companies will pay massive sums to outsource chat/VoIP/age-verification/moderation to discord.
And discord is already the “goto” gaming community provider.Oh, and shop stuff.
Gift (buy) a friend a cool cosmetic through discord. Already has the community connections. Just needs the reason for games to tightly integrate it (moderation, chat, VoIP, age verification).It is absolutely a positioning move

Anyone looking for a lightweight self hosted alternative to discord might want to check out sharkord. Its less about large communities and more about a private space to chat with friends, that you have complete privacy and control with.
Yet the entire software community depends on it for everything

My country was getting age verification before the others but yesterday it just stopped for me, no idea why
I recommend Stoat, it can be selfhosted, open source, there is no shady company behind it, and it works well. There even is top-notch noise filtering, which I found very important for voice calls.
Stoats bigger problem is that it’s been spinning it’s wheels for years has basically gotten no where and has a fraction of the features people want out of a discord clone.
It’s ok, but it need to actually start taking progressing it’s feature set seriously before anyone will start taking it seriously.

I have a hard time assigning countries to open source projects since anyone can contribute. No idea whether the core devs are russian. Their online communication and documentation is completely in english and their domains are american.
