Some of the proud boys had such egregious criminal records they couldn’t even pass an ICE background check. This will get them on board. “No thug left behind.”
It’s likely some of those have already slipped through. I hear what you are saying, but it makes no sense to me that Trump (or more likely, Stephen Miller) would bother creating a new radical militia when DHS is already right there, with way more funding, infrastructure, and basically zero oversight.
Trump is also not in the habit of paying people when he could simply promise to pay people and pocket the cash instead. I can’t honestly see any J6ers getting any of this money outside of maybe one or two just for the news ragebait/distraction.

I don’t actually think it’ll go to anyone who needs it - probably mostly another trump family grift. The thought experiment goes that he doesn’t actually pay any stochastic terrorists, he just convinces a whole lot of them that they’ll be taken care of if they pop off and cause enough chaos for the election to be cancelled. Used that way, 1.8B can go much further than it would for an organized / funded militia
This is along the lines of my thinking as well. Insinuate it’s going to J6ers (as if that’s not already who has been signing up for the ICE bonuses that will never be doled out) and then just pocket it. The dumb fucks in the base have shown they don’t need payment to pledge undying loyalty just so long as they can keep the hate train going.
ICE is barely beholden to the law but that’s still way too much for what Trump has in mind. A private army of J6rs paid well enough to do absolutely anything along with any mercenary just wanting the money. 1.7b / 10,000 = $170,000. He could pay 10,000 people $170,000. I think that’s exactly what he wants to do. That’s exactly what he wanted on Jan6 but those idiot fucks were doing it for free.
So, 13,000 ICE and DHS officials plus 10,000 even angrier and even dumber private army militia. I want to mention that we’ve got likely over 10% unemployment right now. The real numbers are difficult but my most measures I trust, they’re saying 10+%. This is the exact situation the Nazis were in. They were out of work, currency was almost worthless and the Nazi party were paying (they got the wealthy early on).
Now, the big difference is I do not think there’s enough people willing to join up. I think they’re maxed at ICE numbers. There really weren’t that many J6rs who weren’t feeble Boomers. But, I do think they’re trying to follow the Nazi playbook. This is what they want. They’re just terribly fucking incompetent so… I guess we’ll see.
