I have been more than 2 years on Lemmy and I have had an amazing experience with everything, but lately I see more and more US politics on all! I also see new communities regarding US politics + newspapers about the US, cross-posting same article in multiple communities and so on.

It’s only me who thinks this is too much? Anyone else that have noticed it?

Hey, did you know your account is set to appear as a bot and many may be filtering out your posts/comments as a result? You can change this in your Lemmy profile settings.

Ooo, thank you for telling me this. Can I ask in what way? I’ve just made some changes but feedback would be useful for me as a new user. Thank you!

I think between Elon Musk departing Washington and the alarming fascist escalation in Los Angeles, it’s kind of to be expected.

But note that (at least on my instance, lemmy.world) you can click the post’s drop-down menu and hide posts you don’t want to see again, so that helps somewhat.

I guess my question is “Since when?”

Yes there was an annoying influx of election politics last year. Then there was another since January, Trump getting into power and saying dumb (but apparently newsworthy) shit almost every single day without fail.

a bunch of the stuff the Trump admin did

Following that there is the Project2025 high-veolcity dismantlement of democratic establishments and norms, while simultaneously destroying the relationships with allies through trade negotiations.

This week, of course before an unusual military display that is usually planned by North Korean and Russian dictators, Trump is setting up the suspension of freedom of expression by improperly summoning the National Guard and Marines to what was originally a disproportionately small anti-ICE protest.

So yes, a lot more crazy stuff is happening than before, and it certainly isn’t healthy. However, I don’t consider it the fault of people posting/cross-posting on Lemmy, I blame the chaos-stirring narcissistic arsonist who leads what formerly was the leader of the free world.

Yes, you should filter it to a level that you can tolerate in a good mental state. Each person is different. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed, but be aware enough to hold onto the thread of knowing what you can or cannot do about it.

The more people vocally speak up against Nazis–the easiest stance in the world to take–the sooner it goes away.

Talking sense online does help. It doesn’t forcibly stop them instantly, but it absolutely helps, so everybody do it. No point is too obvious. “It’s good when governments help their citizens and bad when they attack them.”

“Everybody who assaults their fellow countrymen because some limp traitor told them to is a bitch.”

Yeah there’s been an influx lately of it it is getting a little annoying. A lot of times it seems to be a single user that will post the same thing across so many things so I’ll just block them. I block the users that are just news organizations as well

After reading through this thread, I want to mention that I’m feeling the same way as you and with the amount of politics and uncomfortable discussions I’m seeing, I find that I prefer to go find discussions that are more relaxing instead. This also kind of also reminds me of the ideas of a community which I’m not able to think of what to call it, or I would probably have created it already. Someone did give me an explanation in DM that I think fits it, but still not sure what to call it.

I have been finding myself uncomfortable with a lot of things posted in politics, News, Global News, and some in Not The Onion, Memes. I’m also finding myself not wanting to look inside the technology community because I’m not interested in the latest and the greatest shit since it feels like we are heading for a disaster. Right now, I’m just thinking of ideas on what can be done to make it better, block a lot of the negative stuff out, and focus on getting back into a more peaceful wilderness-like area.

This is what I sometimes feel as someone who isn’t from the USA, a bit alienated from the discourse online. Our politics is more boring so it can be hard to understand the cultural wars unless you are a huge USA-phile who follows the world news extremely closely.

Edit: Like right-wing people here mainly have a reputation for being wankers as opposed to “nazis” or anything else dangerous. Makes it hard to understand the apocalyptic rhetoric sometimes but we’d probably behave the same if we thought our democracy was in danger.

So what? You guys spammed politics all day long about Trump being president, still you did nothing to kick him out. Now you spam about a civil war, but you do nothing but post videos, photos and articles. How this going to help??? Tell me ??? How more communities and cross-posting will help ? Tell me please!

I treat this place just like real life. The feed is not tailored to me, so I block lots of stuff. Rude people, people that down vote, narcissists, communities with bad vibes, if I interact with moderators after interacting in good faith, or if I post something I know to be factually correct but get some negative cascade in response I simply block the whole community or individual. I’ve blocked 200+ users and at least as many communities. I only care about real people that have the decency to interact cordially.
