Summary

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) called Elon Musk’s email to federal employees demanding details of their past week’s work “plainly unlawful.

Musk shared the email and threatened resignation for non-compliance, sparking outrage and confusion.

The union’s president, Everett Kelley, called for the email’s retraction and an apology, citing a lack of legal authority and violations of management delegation.

Agencies like the Defense Department advised employees to disregard the email, asserting their own management authority. The union criticized the email as disruptive and intimidating.

It also had the signs of a phishing test. You’d be in trouble responding to those, too, even just to say fuck off.

The email says NOTHING about resignation for non compliance. The rats tweet says not responding will be taken as a resignation.

“shared the email and threatened resignation” are two different actions, not necessarily implied to be the same thing.

Sure, but it needs to be made clear, if you only read the email you would have no clue ignoring it would be taken as a resignation.

All such communication from DOGE to federal employees should be ignored by the agengies being targeted.

Make them have to actually do more than “talk big”. Most people like Musk don’t have the actual backbone to do anymore than talk.

Contractually obligated dignity and respect is where it’s at. That email probably triggered half a dozen grievances the moment it was sent

Really speed running the “Why Nations Fail” checklist. Kill institutions, inclusivity, rule of law, pushing extractive industries. Educational and healthcare is already half death but still needs to get the coup de grâce.
