James Talarico, the Texas Democratic state representative and Presbyterian seminarian, has said he forgives Pete Hegseth’s pastor for praying for his death. On Tuesday, Texas’s popular Democratic nominee for a US Senate seat pushed back against comments from Brooks Potteiger, the defense secretary’s closest spiritual adviser, who said: “We want him crucified with Christ.”
Talarico said on X: “Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills. You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.”
The 36-year-old’s response comes after Potteiger wished for his death last on a Christian nationalist podcast called Reformation Red Pill, which Hegseth has appeared on several times. Potteiger had joined a discussion about Talarico with podcast host Joshua Haymes, a former pastoral intern at Potteiger’s church who previously claimed that the Bible is “pro-ICE raids”.
Speaking on the podcast, Haymes said: “First and foremost, we pray that a man like this would be cut to the heart,” adding: “This is where you have imprecatory psalms. This is where you pray strongly … The psalmist is not shy. God, destroy them. Make them as dung on the ground.”
Haymes went on to say: “I pray that God kills him … Ultimately, that means killing his heart and raising him up to new life in Christ.”
Old Testament Christians vs New Testament Christians right here, folks.
The new testament is kind of the whole point of Christianity.
Right, it’s where the whole Christ part comes from. These heretics should be flogged and cast out from society.
Jesus probably wouldn’t be super big on the flogging thing. More of a “den of thieves” table flipping guy.
And they either leverage or disavow the Old Testament according to their needs, as in this case.
Oh you think the Bible endorses slavery? How cute. That is the old covenant, and should be read historically
Vs
God is a god of WAR, and praying for the death of your enemy is Biblical, right there in the oldest part of the bible.
“there is nothing Christian about Christian nationalism.”
- James Talarico
I wish there was more separation of church and state, but the bar is low for Texas. If we’re going to have a religious politician, James sounds like the guy. If I lived in Texas he would have my vote. I saw him on Colbert, he really seems like a genuinely good dude.
He is also very much in favor of separation of church and state.
This is one of the main reasons I refuse to be a Christian. These supposed good Christians just stand by and let these heretics and charletons identify with their religion and hold positions of power. Do something about them or fuck off you evil bastards.
You’re right! This guy says he’s a Christian but he’s only speaking out against the bastardization of his religion and campaigning for a political office in the hopes to change things.
Which is effectively the same thing as just standing by. Instead, he should be…uh…challenging them to combat?
I’m referring to Christianity as a whole. They allow these evil monsters to champion their religion. That makes them culpable. This man seems like a decent person himself, but he is the same religion as these monsters out here murdering and raping children and the rotten apples spoil the bunch.
I agree. Also:
This is one of the main reasons I refuse to be American. These supposed good Americans just stand by and let these heretics and charletons identify with their nationality and hold positions of power. Do something about them or fuck off you evil bastards.
That’s dumb AF, lol. I didn’t choose to be an American, ya dolt.

“If it really isn’t a violent religion, then why don’t the non violent members take some responsibility and call out the violent terrorists who commit so many atrocities in the name of the religion?”
Talarico said on X: “Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills. You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.”

These people are insane!
Republicans think they’re weak fucking losers for such sentiments.
Christians are bad as Muslims, Communists and all other “my beleive is the only right thing”. They just pretend to be different.
